HAZARD MMX

17 July 12-5pm Free
Manchester City Centre

One man, a forest of placards and the roar of the crowd… a woman crushed by a celestial object… a solo quest to make over the image of banking… six wheelchair users touching down on the moon in Manchester… one hundred Dorothys celebrating Judy.

HAZARD Manchester’s micro-festival of sited performance and intervention unleashes its third wave of bizarre behaviour onto the city on 17 July. Outbreaks of cheeky, thought-provoking and sometimes raunchy sprees of eccentricity take live art and contemporary performance into the public domain.

The two previous outings of Hazard have seen the bold and the beautiful, eccentric and extreme crop-up in every possible location: Cathedral Gardens swaddled in Hazard Tape, giant dancing traffic cones, impossible circumnavigations of the city by canoe and dry-wipe graffiti have all featured. At times unavoidable, at times subliminal, a flash of yellow and black might be the only clue that the city is one big performance.

For HAZARD MMX, over twenty pieces of work will take to the streets, with participating artists to include:

Alex Bradley, Andy&Gaz&Jon, Astrid Breel, Clare Charnley, Doldrum Theatre, Eggs Collective, Fin de Siecle, Freezechester, Hannah Wiles, Hen’s Teeth Theatre, James Topple, Jordan McKenzie, Martin Hamblen, Natalie Preece, Noise Club, Out Of Hand Theater, Peader Kirk, Rachael Nutter, Scratch ‘n Sniff Cinema, The Muffia, Vickie Fear

>From pervasive gaming to one-on-one performance; a phone-based guided tour to take-away artworks, HAZARD MMX aims to provoke and amuse, involve and engage, demonstrating to the city the playful side of contemporary art.

Get involved:

Larkin’ About’s micro-festival within a micro-festival, brings pervasive gaming to Manchester Arndale Centre. Turn up at Hallé Square from 12pm to join the games.

Find your inner Dorothy:

Eggs Collective is calling for participants to join them on a march through the city from the Emerald City to Canal Street. Contact them at eggs_collective@hotmail.com.

HAZARD MMX is looking for ‘placardeers’ to participate in a mobile intervention from 11-16 July, and for stewards to help spread the word on the day, expenses paid – contact hazard@habarts.org

To keep up to date with information and the inside knowledge on HAZARD, visit: www.hazardmcr.org or follow @hazardmcr

David Dunnico and Howard Barlow combine their black & white photography in a unique exhibition of photographs of Manchester. David Dunnico’s photographs of Manchester’s new landmarks juxtaposed against Howard Barlow’s photographs of the city in the 1970s and 1980s shows how far Manchester has come in just a few decades!

The Craft Shop Gallery Corner presents

NORMAN EAMES and his new solo exhibition of wood and resin pictures – 30 March – 15 May

‘My work has developed through many forms since my early experiments some ten years ago. From my first efforts, namely coasters and candle holders, I have progressed and now produce a range of pieces in the form of pictures, sculptures and jewellery utilising the mediums of wood and resin. My work tends to be mainly abstract in form, although I do also produce pictures in a ‘marquetry’ style, which might be pictorial or semi-abstract. All my work is original and hand made and, I believe, unique.’

The first comprehensive UK exhibition of new and recent contemporary art from Iraq since the first Gulf War, examining practices that are emerging with fresh perspectives from a culture marked by conflict and turmoil. This show provides a platform for a new generation of artists who acknowledge the aesthetics of conflict, but are not bound by them. Instead, they are fused with collapsing aforementioned associations and seek to broaden awareness of life beyond the brink of war, pointing toward other immediate concerns across the country.
